The Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to the European iRIS project, aiming to reduce the environmental footprint of large research infrastructures using AI. The role involves developing and validating machine learning and optimisation methods to reduce CIME cyclotron set-up times by 30-50% and energy consumption. Key tasks include building surrogate models of the machine, implementing optimisation algorithms (Bayesian optimisation, reinforcement learning), and integrating these into the control system. The candidate will also lead GANIL's contribution to the project's deliverable on operational accelerator data and instrumentation, and collaborate with international partners. Fluency in English is mandatory, with French as a plus. The position offers a 35-hour workweek, 53 days of leave per year, and benefits including collective health insurance and meal cost contributions.
