The School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is seeking to appoint a Teaching Focused academic at Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) level with expertise in artificial intelligence and/or data science. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of a flagship suite of postgraduate AI programs that challenge traditional approaches to university assessment and place authentic, competency-based learning at the centre of the student experience. Working within a diverse and supportive academic community, you will help shape innovative programs while contributing to education-focused scholarship, student success, and the University’s broader mission of creating meaningful change through teaching, learning, and research. Key responsibilities will include: Teaching: Develop and deliver new courses within postgraduate artificial intelligence programs, lead curriculum and course design activities, coordinate courses, assess student learning, provide academic advice and support, and collaborate with learning designers to create authentic, competency-based assessment models that reflect contemporary professional practice. Supervision and Researcher Development: Undertake high-quality research in AI and/or data science, contribute to competitive funding applications, supervise coursework thesis projects, and co-supervise research higher degree students where appropriate. Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships with industry, government, and academic collaborators, demonstrate leadership through mentoring and collegial support, contribute to School and University committees, undertake administrative responsibilities, and uphold UQ’s values of excellence, integrity, respect, and inclusivity. About You You are a passionate educator and scholar who is committed to developing exceptional learning experiences and preparing graduates to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. You will demonstrate the following: A PhD in artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated expertise in artificial intelligence and/or data science, with the ability to teach across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. An emerging profile of teaching excellence and/or education-focused scholarship in artificial intelligence or data science, demonstrated through curriculum innovation, scholarly outputs, teaching awards, educational leadership, teaching recognition and a publicly accessible Google Scholar profile (please include a link in your application). Demonstrated experience applying contemporary pedagogical approaches to design, develop and evaluate engaging, student-centred learning experiences. Experience designing authentic assessments and competency-based evaluation frameworks that align with professional practice. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across academic, professional and industry communities. Evidence of, or capacity for, contributing to education-focused scholarship through publications, presentations, or other impactful scholarly outcomes. For appointment at Level C, evidence of a growing national or international profile in education-focused scholarship within artificial intelligence or data science, demonstrated through impactful scholarly outputs in high-quality journals and conferences, successful supervision of Honours, Masters, and/or Research Higher Degree students to completion, and evidence of successfully seeking, obtaining and managing external research funding.
