Umeå University’s Department of Chemistry invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral position in Environmental Chemistry. The successful candidate will investigate the recovery of carbon and organic material from hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) filtrates, a byproduct of converting wet residues into hydrochar. The project, RE-FIL, aims to transform HTC filtrates from waste into valuable resources, including self-generated carbon (SGC) microspheres with potential for energy storage and environmental applications. The postdoc will characterize filtrate chemistry and SGC formation using chromatographic, spectroscopic, and microscopic techniques, while collaborating with partners at Karlstad University on parallel microbial production routes. The role involves experimental laboratory work, material characterization, and interdisciplinary collaboration within a dynamic research environment equipped with advanced platforms.
