Postdoctoral Researcher in Climate, Human Behaviour and Dengue Forecasting

The Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to work on the NWO-funded FEEL project (Forecasting dengue Epidemics using Emotion and Language). For 8 months (0.8 FTE), you will develop and evaluate methods to derive emotion indicators from news and public social media, integrate them with dengue surveillance and climate data, and build forecasting models to test whether emotion indicators improve predictions beyond climate and past dengue incidence. The role involves assessing indicator usefulness across locations and lead times, preparing a scientific manuscript, and documenting methods and code for reproducible research. The position is based in the Water and Climate Risk department, combining expertise from natural sciences with economics, e-Science, and geography.
