The University of Glasgow seeks a Research Associate to lead the chemistry component of the PEEN project, a BBSRC-funded initiative developing a novel platform for super-resolution, label-free metabolic imaging of microbial cells. The successful candidate will design and optimize expansion microscopy protocols for bacterial cells, synthesize and characterize silver nanoparticles within expanded hydrogels, and demonstrate the platform using deuterium-labelled Escherichia coli. The role involves wet chemistry, Raman/SERS spectroscopy, and collaborative research with engineering and microbiology teams. A PhD in chemistry, materials science, or a related discipline is required, along with hands-on experience in nanoparticle synthesis, hydrogel fabrication, and Raman spectroscopy. The position is fixed-term until January 2028, with a start date of February 2027.
