This PhD position is part of the DFG-funded Research Unit RING, focusing on advancing ring laser instruments for Earth System science. The successful candidate will develop physics-based models to compute Earth crust deformation caused by atmospheric pressure loading, deploy a large-N barometer array around the Black Forest Observatory (BFO), and derive parametric descriptions of lateral air-pressure gradients. The project aims to create a signal-correction procedure to mitigate local background disturbances in rotation measurements, essential for gravitational-wave observatories and seismology. The candidate will collaborate with 15 early-career researchers, conduct fieldwork, and assist in teaching within Geophysics programs at KIT.
