The Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Chicago invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Pre-Modern History of the Islamicate Middle East or Central Asia. Candidates should have a strong research focus on the social, political, economic, or intellectual history of Muslim societies from approximately 600 to 1700 C.E. The teaching load is four courses per year, and candidates must demonstrate excellence in research and teaching. Proficiency in Classical Arabic or Persian is required, with additional language skills desirable. Applications are due by October 19, 2026.
